From September 26 to 27, Kuang Yaming Honors College successfully organized its “Build a Leading Country in Education, and Cultivate Top Talents” initiative, which featured a research and collaboration visit to Beijing universities and research institutes, focusing on promoting employment opportunities and university-enterprise cooperation. Zhou Yuan, Secretary of the Party Committee of Kuang Yaming Honors College, Zhou An, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Zou Dawei, Assistant to the Dean, along with Secretary for the Office of the Party Committee, Educational Administrator, Counselor, and student Party member representatives, visited Yuanpei College of Peking University and Management Center for Colleges, Tsinghua University. They also conducted visits to Higher Education Press Limited Company and Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences for research and discussions, and met with college alumni. The activities were accompanied by Zheng Gang, a committee member of the 13th All-China Youth Federation, an honorary board member of Nanjing University, and a 2004 alumnus of Kuang Yaming Honors College.
On the afternoon of September 26, the delegation of teachers and students visited Higher Education Press Limited Company. Wang Qiang, Director of Higher Education Publishing Division, Science, and Miao Keke, Deputy Director of Higher Education Publishing Division, Engineering, as well as a 2002 alumnus of Kuang Yaming Honors College, participated in the discussion. In his speech, Wang Qiang highlighted the longstanding and strong collaboration between Nanjing University and Higher Education Press Limited Company in areas such as curriculum construction, textbook compilation, talent cultivation, and academic exchanges through conferences. Miao Keke provided an overview of the history, key fields, and development prospects of Higher Education Press Limited Company. Zhou Yuan gave an in-depth introduction to the development of Kuang Yaming Honors College and its achievements in cultivating top-tier innovative talents. Both sides engaged in discussions on topics including textbook construction, curriculum system, and talent demands.
After the visit, the delegation of teachers and students proceeded to the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Xu Yanyan, Director of the Institute, Researcher Xue Yuanchao, a committee member of the institute’s administration, and Huang Chunjuan, a platform supervisor, senior engineer, and a 1997 alumna of Kuang Yaming Honors College, participated in the research forum. Xue Yuanchao introduced the institute’s basic information from different aspects, including faculty composition, scientific and educational platforms, training models, and teaching achievements. Huang Chunjuan shared her learning and research experiences, expressing gratitude to her alma mater for its cultivating. Zhou Yuan introduced the development history, faculty strength, and distinctive training features of Kuang Yaming Honors College. Both sides engaged in lively discussions on topics such as the “Basic Disciplines Forum” for student academic activities and the integration of science and education, reaching a preliminary consensus on talent cultivation collaboration. After the meeting, the delegation toured the institute’s laboratories.
On the morning of September 27, the delegation of teachers and students visited Yuanpei College of Peking University, where they participated in a seminar together with Li Zhe, Secretary of the Party Committee of Yuanpei College; Li Meng, Dean; and Vice Deans Li Boqiao and Sun Feiyu, as well as other representatives. Li Meng gave a detailed introduction to the scale of faculty and students, the historical development, the training model, and the mentorship system of Yuanpei College. He highlighted the college’s goals of “independent learning, free exploration, holistic personality development, and collective shaping,” focusing on the student growth platforms and the comprehensive freshman education system within its boarding college model. Zhou Yuan shared insights on the educational philosophy and the pioneering science talent cultivation model of Kuang Yaming Honors College. Both sides engaged in a lively discussion on topics such as the establishment of honors colleges, top-tier talent training programs, ideological and political education for students, and internationalization efforts. They exchanged in-depth experiences on initiatives such as the construction of unique freshman seminars and the implementation of flexible academic systems.
In the afternoon of September 27, the group visited the colleges of Tsinghua University for further research. Wang Xiumei, Secretary of the Party Committee of Colleges, Tsinghua University, and Vice Dean of Weixian College, along with Zhang Weite, Vice Dean of Xinya College, attended the seminar. Wang Xiumei introduced the overall structure and distinct characteristics of Colleges, Tsinghua University. Zhang Weite shared in detail the training objectives, curriculum system, and unique features of Xinya College. Zhou Yuan presented the educational philosophy, training characteristics, teaching achievements, student affairs, and international exchange and cooperation of Kuang Yaming Honors College. The session featured a comprehensive exchange of views on curriculum reform, faculty capacity building, student development, interdisciplinary integration, research training, integrated bachelor’s-doctoral programs, and mentorship culture. The participants collaboratively explored innovative strategies for advancing education and teaching reform.
