The present measures are formulated for the purpose of making full use of the benefits of the project, regulating the management of the fund, and raising the scale, quality, organization, and management of the extracurricular research activities of the undergraduate students on the base to a new level:
Chapter I Project Management Committee
Article 1 A leading group for project organization is established with dean as its head and vice dean in charge of teaching as being responsible for specific work. This group is intended to formulate relevant policies, coordinate faculty resources, make long-term planning, and strive to obtain continuous funding. A panel of specialists will be invited to evaluate and review extracurricular research projects of undergraduate students at stages of project selection, mid-term review, and completion.
Article 2 School administrators are responsible of the management of routine procedures and the collection and filing of various documents and materials.
Chapter II Project Implementation Plan
Article 3 Project applications shall be subject to the procedures of project selection, mid-term review, and completion.
Article 4 Each independent project will be funded a grant of about RMB 10,000 yuan. Additional funding can be provided for outstanding projects.
Article 5 The students who hold the project should complete the projects during the time periods of research training in summer and winter holidays or during the time period of thesis writing. If a project needs to be extended in time or extended into a new topic, application is allowed to be made for additional funding.
Article 6 Supervisors of projects should be primarily faculty members of the university but can also be senior researchers from outside the university.
Chapter III Procedures of Project Management
Article 7 Project Selection:
From now to April 15, 2017, after full consultation with supervisors, student applicants should fill out the Project Application Form and submit it to the school with the required attachments.
In April 2017, the school will organize specialists to select projects and announce the list of sponsored students and the amounts of funding. Students can start the research work of their projects.
Article 8 Mid-Term Evaluation
In April 2018, the funded students should provide written reports for mid-term evaluation with supervisors’ opinions and signatures and submit the reports to the school for evaluation and record.
For the excellent projects in the mid-term evaluation, the school will provide additional funding. For the projects that fail in the mid-term evaluation, the school will suspend the funding.
Article 9 Examination and Acceptance
The examination and acceptance of the projects will be conducted before June 15, 2019. All funded students are required to fill out the acceptance forms, submit the research reports on time, and make an oral report of about 15 minutes to the panel.
Chapter IV Project Management Procedures
Article 10 Papers related to topics of the funded projects or other academic activities that supervisors and funded students attend should be marked as funded by the project fund.
Article 11 The use of the project funding should strictly comply with the relevant regulations of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. The grant funds are mainly used for transportation fees, experimental fees, material fees, publication fees, and other research expenses. It shall not be used for reception, daily necessities, and other expenses not related to the research (such as meals, communication expenses, etc.) and shall not be used for other purposes.
Article 12 The school should pay attention to collecting all kinds of supporting materials of the fund’s effectiveness, such as papers, research reports, student awards, records of academic activities, and other materials to prove the fund’s social benefits and improvement of undergraduate students’ abilities.
