Kuang Yaming Honors School offers a four-year undergraduate progam for science students from four discipline groups: mathematics & information science, physics & astronomy, chemistry & life sciences, and inter-disciplines, which are further divided into nine majors: mathematics, computer science, astronomy, physics, biophysics, chemistry, biology, biochemistry, brain science, and artificial intelligence. The students can select many times and gradually determine their desired major. The school focuses on helping students in sciences lay a solid foundation and build their capacities. Its courses are designed to incorporate the cutting edge research in the field, trying to lead the students onto the path of scientific research at the undergraduate stage.
As for the students in humanities and social sciences, the school gives full play to the advantages and resources of relevant disciplines at Nanjing University to arrange the courses. (The enrollment in humanities and social sciences has been suspended since 2013 due to discipline adjustment.) The school also divides the students into several discipline groups to promote the interdisciplinary interaction among the applied arts and English so as to better link up the undergraduate and graduate education. As the four-year program designs, in the first and second academic years, the students focus on studying the fundamentals of the applied arts, expanding their horizons on world knowledge, and taking a good command of English; while in the third and fourth academic years, the students move on to professional study and attending bilingual courses to the improve their professional skills and research ability. The courses are designed to cultivate competent graduates in the applied arts such as business, law, journalism, and other cross-disciplinary work.
